Ephemeral Viral disease in Cattles

Information provided to dairy farmers by Reliance Foundation and District Animal Husbandry Department: Ephemeral fever occurs mostly in cow calves. After the early rains, mosquitoes multiply and the diseased cattle come and bite healthy cattle, causing ephemeral fever. This disease is especially common in cows with one, two, or three calves. It is very rare in goats. If you look at the symptoms of this disease in the first stage, the cattle get a high fever. There is discharge from the eyes and nose. There is also drooling from the mouth. In the second stage, the cattle get extreme muscle pain and the cattle cannot walk. The milk yield of the cattle that recover from this disease decreases by 15%. As soon as these symptoms are detected, consult a veterinarian and give either Meloxicam or Paracetamol to the cattle to relieve fever and pain. Antibiotics such as streptopenicin should be used as needed, as advised by a veterinarian.
